X-Ray Course
Are you considering becoming a Dental Assistant in Encino or Downey? In the state of California, a Dental Assistant must have their California Radiation Safety (X-ray) certificate to be permitted to take X-rays in a dental office.
Our California Dental Board-approved X-ray course teaches students the importance of radiation safety and prepares students to perform X-rays in a dental office. Upon completion of The Valley School for Dental Assisting’s X-ray course, we will issue an X-ray certificate to the student.
This three-day or four-day course is designed for individuals with prior X-ray experience and includes hands-on practice with mannequins, three homework** patients, and one final patient. Students without previous X-ray experience must enroll in our Intro to X-Ray course.
**The Encino location offers an additional homework day.
Certification Requirements:
Current 8-hour Infection Control and CPR certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) prior to homework patient day.
Course Breakdown:
First Day
Our X-Ray course begins with a lecture on radiation safety and X-ray techniques. Students will gain hands-on experience by completing two full-mouth X-rays (FMXs) and two bitewing X-rays (BWXs) on mannequins. Students will schedule their homework and final patient appointments at our facility.
Second Day
This day is designated as Homework Patient Day, during which students will bring in three patients to perform full-mouth X-rays (FMXs).
Final Day
Students will be given a written exam and a clinical exam of one FMX on their own patient. Upon successful completion, students will receive their California Radiation Safety (X-ray) Certificate and will be able to perform X-rays in a dental office.
