One of the main responsibilities of a dental assistant is to prepare patients for their dental procedure. This includes preparing tray setups for the dental hygienist, taking x-rays or impressions as needed, and talking to the patients to see if they have any questions or concerns about their visit. As part of the tray setup for each patient, dental assistants are also responsible for sterilizing the tools and equipment that will be used throughout the procedure. This is an extremely important responsibility, as it ensures the health and safety of each patient. Another responsibility of a dental assistant is to support the hygienist throughout each procedure. This includes adjusting the light as needed, providing suction when necessary, and ensuring that the hygienist has everything they need to complete the procedure as efficiently as possible. Finally, after each procedure is complete, it is the responsibility of the dental assistant to clean up each exam room and the tools and equipment used during the procedure.
